If you’ve ever visited Northern Europe during the Winter months, you might recall the intoxicating aroma (and maybe the intoxicating effect) of warmed red wine with spices, in Germany known as “Glühwein.”
Our resident German expert, Herr Helge Hellberg, ensures us that this recipe produces a truly authentic experience. Enjoy with friends wherever you are in the world, inside or out of the cold, for holiday or simply for its utter deliciousness.

1 (750 ml) bottle Frey Biodynamic Zinfandel (or any dry red wine)
1 tablespoons dried orange peel
2 two-inch long cinnamon sticks
½ vanilla bean
¼ cup organic cane sugar
In a medium saucepan, combine the red wine, orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla bean, and cane sugar. Bring to a simmer, careful not to boil, and simmer for 10 minutes to infuse. Pour the wine into a heat-resistant serving vessel through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the spices, and serve with a splash of rum, if desired.
